A fertility examination at Ovumia Stockholm includes, among other things, an analysis of ovarian capacity, which is assessed through vaginal ultrasound and blood tests. The number of sperm and its quality are also checked during the investigation if applicable.
After the examination, the doctor may recommend the most suitable treatment method to achieve the best possible outcome. The best-suited treatment is discussed in dialogue with you. At Ovumia Stockholm, we take into account how long infertility has been present, the underlying cause, and the woman’s age.
The doctor checks whether the woman ovulates normally, which is done through a vaginal examination using ultrasound. Sometimes, it may also be relevant to complement this with blood tests. It is also possible for the woman to monitor her own ovulation using ovulation test strips.
At Ovumia Stockholm, we also use blood tests during the investigation of the woman to assess thyroid function and ovarian capacity. If the woman has an irregular menstrual cycle, additional testing may sometimes be required. If this is the case, the responsible doctor will inform you. If there is an indication, it may also be relevant to supplement the investigation with a tubal patency test, known as HSG/HSSG.
At Ovumia, a sperm analysis is also performed during the assessment. This includes checking the sperm count and its motility. If the results are abnormal, further recommendations will be provided by the responsible doctor.
In some men, there are no sperm at all in the semen, a condition called azoospermia. This can be due to severely reduced production or a blockage in the vas deferens or epididymis. A blockage can be congenital or develop over time, such as after sterilization, external trauma, or inflammation in the epididymis. Today, there are options to help men with azoospermia become biological fathers through in vitro fertilization using microinjection technique, also called ICSI.
At Ovumia Stockholm, we offer fertility counseling even if you are not currently planning a pregnancy. We understand that certain medical conditions and lifestyle factors can affect the ability to start a family in the future, and we are here to offer support and expertise in this area.
