Counseling for Fertility Treatments with Donated Sperm

Deciding to undergo fertility treatments with donated sperm is a significant decision. At Ovumia, we understand that donated gametes are needed for many different reasons. Often, the decision to pursue fertility treatment follows an emotional journey with a lot of contemplation.

For us at Ovumia, it is important that you feel heard and supported in making decisions regarding fertility treatment. We take great care in providing personalized counseling and work together with you to discuss and determine the most suitable treatment approach for your situation.

Treatment Options with Donated Sperm

There are two treatment options available with donated sperm: insemination or in vitro fertilization (IVF).

In insemination, thawed sperm is introduced into the uterus during ovulation, either in a natural menstrual cycle or a hormone-stimulated cycle. Learn more about insemination here.

In in vitro fertilization (IVF), fertilization of the eggs takes place outside the body, and donated sperm can also be used. At Ovumia, fertilization is always carried out in a high-quality laboratory. Learn more about IVF treatment here.

Donors

Ovumia uses sperm from the clinic’s own egg and sperm bank. We have a wide selection of donated gametes, which means there is no waiting time for fertility treatments with donated sperm. The donors are healthy men between the ages of 18 and 45. They are also screened for infections. They are carefully selected according to current legislation as well as European and international quality standards.

Matching:

According to Swedish law, patients are not allowed to choose specific traits of the donor themselves. The donor is chosen based on the appearance of the recipient, taking into account ethnic origin, hair color, eye color, and body type. A doctor and midwife work together to select a suitable donor. In Sweden, it is only permitted to donate for altruistic reasons.
