Egg donation in Stockholm
Ovumia offers high-quality donated eggs and has its own egg bank (The Ovumia Egg Bank) in Finland. Our donation program includes both fresh and frozen donated eggs, and we take great care of our egg donors.
In egg donation treatment, we work closely with our Finnish clinics, as the donated eggs come from our own egg bank. If the partner’s sperm is to be used, it will be sent to Finland, where fertilization will take place. After fertilization, the blastocyst is sent to us in Stockholm, where the transfer will be performed.
We offer egg donation to couples and single women who either lack or have significantly reduced ovarian function. The underlying causes of this can include early menopause, illnesses, surgeries, or chemotherapy that has affected ovarian function. It can also be an option when repeated IVF treatments have not resulted in pregnancy.
It is important to note that if the recipients are older (for example, over 40 years old), a pregnancy always carries higher risks. In pregnancies that occur after egg donation, there is also a slightly higher risk of high blood pressure and preeclampsia. These risks are carefully discussed during the initial consultation before starting your treatment. We would also like to mention that the risk of chromosomal abnormalities, which correlates with the age of the eggs used, can be significantly reduced when using donated eggs.

Ovumia uses donated eggs from our clinics’ own egg and sperm banks. We offer a wide selection of donated reproductive cells, ensuring short waiting times for fertility treatments with donated eggs. Our donors are healthy women aged 20-35 years, tested for infectious diseases. They are also carefully selected in accordance with current legislation, as well as European and international quality standards.
According to Swedish legislation, patients cannot choose the characteristics of the donor. Eye color, hair color, skin color, and body type of the donor are matched with the individual who will carry the pregnancy. In treatment with couples, the donor is matched to the parent who will not carry the child during pregnancy.
In Sweden, it is mandatory to use open donors. This means that the child has the right to learn about their genetic origin once they reach adulthood. When the donor has been selected, sperm and eggs are combined in a petri dish in the laboratory for fertilization to occur.
Deciding to accept donated reproductive cells can be difficult. It is important to take your time and carefully consider your decision. If you are a couple, both of you need to come for a consultation at Ovumia to meet with a doctor. During this meeting, we will review your previous treatments and ensure that the medical, psychological, and social conditions for egg donation are met.
A treatment is only appropriate if the child is assessed to grow up in an environment with good conditions. The woman must also be of reproductive age and not over 46 years old.
A psychological assessment with a behavioral scientist or psychologist is also part of the donation investigation. This allows you to have an in-depth psychosocial evaluation and the opportunity to discuss any emotions related to undergoing egg donation.

The donor is chosen according to various criteria, including ethnic origin, hair color, and eye color. A doctor and midwife select a suitable donor for the recipient.
When it’s time for fertilization, the donor’s eggs are combined with sperm from the male partner who wishes to have a child. In cases of double donation, the harvested eggs are fertilized with donor sperm. The embryo transfer to the woman is done when the uterine lining is prepared.
